Certified Training Program: Aerial Work Platforms in Tree Care

Working with Aerial Work Platforms in Tree Care
If climbing is not for you, there is the option of using an aerial work platform to work in the tree and subsequently progress to the European Tree Worker platform and European Tree Technician. After passing the exam, you receive a certificate that qualifies you, after relevant professional experience in tree care, to participate in the ETW platform (with aerial work platform).


Course Content

General information on working with aerial work platforms:

  • Safety features and visual inspection
  • Operating basics according to AUVA M820 guidelines
  • Setting up and securing the equipment
  • Basic maintenance and servicing
  • Handling in emergency situations
  • Use of PPE and PPE against falls
  • Knot knowledge

Working in tree care:

  • Tree care work with aerial work platform
  • Tree dismantling with aerial work platform
  • Rigging on the tree with aerial work platform

Certificate exam


Requirements

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • 16-hour first aid course (no more than 4 years old – refresher courses are ok!)
  • Valid occupational health examination for "work at heights with risk of falling" (e.g. according to G41)
  • Proof of expertise (horticultural or forestry qualification or attendance of the Basics of Tree Care course)
  • Proof of chainsaw competence (or attendance of the 2-day chainsaw course)

What to Bring

  • Valid occupational health examination "work at great heights with risk of falling" (if no expiry date is indicated, no more than 3 years old)
  • 16-hour first aid certificate (no more than 4 years old; refresher courses possible!)
  • Proof of expertise (horticultural or forestry qualification) or attendance of the Basics of Tree Care course
  • Proof of chainsaw competence or attendance of the "Chainsaw Course"

 

The PPE must be brought complete and inspected (with inspection protocol). You are welcome to purchase any missing equipment items at our Kreitl Shop in Raasdorf (Freeworker Austria).

 

  • Inspection protocol for the annual PPE inspection by a competent person
  • Arborist helmet with hearing and face protection
  • Cut-protection trousers
  • Cut-protection boots (S3 safety shoes are not sufficient!)
  • Possibly work shoes
  • Weatherproof work clothing
  • Chainsaw + felling tools (if available)
  • Rigging equipment (if available)
  • Fall arrest system for the aerial work platform (if available)

Information on the certificate and recertification: After passing the exam, you will receive a certificate and a card. These are valid for 3 years. For recertification, a 4-hour rescue training session must be attended, and proof of a current 16-hour first aid course and valid G41 must be provided. You will then receive a new card.
